The two numbers
Onset: 15–30 minutes. Most men begin to feel the effects of HardRx within that range, driven by the sildenafil component and helped considerably by sublingual absorption.
Duration: up to 36 hours. The window during which the medication remains available to support a response, driven by the tadalafil component.
Both are typical ranges, not guarantees. Individual response varies, and "up to" is doing real work in that second figure.
What 36 hours does not mean
This gets misunderstood so consistently it is worth being blunt about.
Thirty-six hours does not mean a 36-hour erection. It means the medication is present in your system and able to support the normal physical response to arousal during that period. Without arousal, nothing happens — at hour one or hour thirty.
An erection lasting more than 4 hours is an emergency
Priapism — a prolonged erection unrelated to arousal — can cause permanent tissue damage. If an erection lasts more than four hours, seek emergency medical attention immediately. This is not a sign the medication is working well.
What the window is actually for
The practical value of a long window is the removal of scheduling. With a short-acting medication you are watching a clock: take it, wait, and hope the evening lands inside the window. That pressure is its own problem, and for plenty of men it makes the underlying difficulty worse.
A dose covering up to 36 hours changes the arithmetic. Take it Friday evening and the window covers Friday night and most of Saturday. Nothing has to be timed, and nothing has to be announced.
What affects how long it lasts for you
- Your metabolism. Individual clearance rates vary considerably.
- Food and alcohol. A very heavy meal can slow absorption. Significant alcohol can worsen erectile difficulty on its own and amplify side effects such as dizziness.
- Your prescribed dose. Set by the reviewing physician based on your health history.
- Whether you took it correctly. Let it dissolve under the tongue. Swallowing or chewing it routes the dose through digestion and changes absorption.
- Age, liver and kidney function, and other medications. All influence how a drug is processed.

- Place the tablet under your tongue.
- Let it dissolve completely. Do not chew it. Do not swallow it whole.
- Avoid eating or drinking while it dissolves.
- Allow 15–30 minutes.
- Take no more than one dose in any 24-hour period.
That last rule is not flexible. If a dose felt weaker than expected, the answer is a conversation with the prescribing physician, not a second tablet.
Why the first dose is not a fair test
Anxiety is a genuine physiological factor in erectile function, and the first time trying a new medication tends to come loaded with it. Many men find later doses feel more reliable simply because the pressure of "will this work" has gone.
If several correctly-taken doses produce no useful response, that is worth reporting rather than pushing through. Some men do not respond adequately to PDE5 inhibitors, and there may be an underlying cause worth investigating with your own doctor.
Planning around it
Practically: take it 15–30 minutes before you expect intimacy, or take it earlier in the evening and let the long tail cover the rest. There is little benefit in taking it hours in advance beyond convenience — the window is long enough that precision is not required, which is rather the point.
